Trekking in Nepal is very different from trekking in a desert national park. While we use dirt trails mainly for recreation, for the Nepalese that live in the mountains walking is the normal means of transport. The trail has the same function as our roads: it is used by children that go to school and by people that work or travel to meet relatives.
The Khumbu area is well populated, so there is a lot of the locals' daily life that can be witnessed, both in villages and in the fields, and the contact is easy. It is also a popular place for tourists, so the trail is wide and, during the peak trekking seasons, abounds with foreigners and their heavily loaded porters.
